Distance / Online Learning Options for Students

The Hawaii State Department of Education recognizes the need and supports distance / online learning opportunities for its students through online charter schools, student support programs such as E-School, and partnership programs with the state community colleges / universities.

For other distance / online learning programs from outside providers and institutions, the school principal's evaluation and approval should be obtained before programs are utilized and credit can be recognized.

For questions regarding a specific distance / online learning opportunity offered at your school, contact your school office.

For general questions, please contact the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support, Student Support Branch at 808-203-5510.

Related Information:

  • E-School is a supplementary education program run by the Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE) Student Support Branch. It provides standards-based, online courses for Hawaii's public school students. Students enrolled in any DOE public school (which includes charter schools) can take these supplemental online courses in addition to their regular classes and receive credit.
